 I: Background

•  The on-line course is anchored on the Kenya Vision 2030 and its first medium term plan

•  It was developed by the Ministry staff in collaboration with a team of consultants, Work bench and UNDP

•  It's the first of its kind in public service and a great innovation

•  Ministry has the administration rights 

II: Objectives of the Kenya Vision 2030 online Course

•  Promote knowledge and understanding of the Vision 2030 and its goals;

•  Promote wider public awareness and ownership of Vision 2030;

•  Develop a viable e-learning option that will enable officers acquire knowledge and skills critical to the implementation of the Kenya Vision 2030 projects and prammes;

•  Introduce e-learning as a viable option in public service and hence contribute to public sector reforms;

•  Enhance efficiency of public service by promoting computer/internet usage & proficiency;

•  Demonstrate that e-learning can significantly reduce massive costs currently expended by public sector on staff training;

•  Significantly promote public sector awareness and ownership of the Vision 2030

III: Advantages of e-learning

•  It is accessible at any time and any place

•  Training can be delivered to geographically dispersed target

•  Training can be delivered faster and to more employees in a shorter period of time

•  Practice, feedback, objectives, assessment, and other positive features of a learning environment can be built into the program

•  Learning is enhanced through use of multiple media and trainee interaction

•  Paperwork related to training management can be eliminated

•  It can link learners to other content, experts, and peers

IV: Target audience and way forward

•  The on-line course will initially target Kenyans and public officers at the policy-making level including those in local government

•  The course will also be available to other cadre of staff in the public sector.

•  It will additionally target university students, the media and members of the public.

•  The course to be shared with other training institutions at a later date
