The Ministry of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 has today launched an online course on the Kenya Vision 2030.The self-paced online course is an innovation of the Ministry developed based on the pillars and the framework of Vision 2030 as well as its first Medium Term Plan (MTP) of 2008-2012.
The course is aimed at enhancing and developing skills particularly among civil servants by enabling them acquire knowledge that is useful for implementing the Vision 2030 flagship and other projects.

Speaking during the official launch of the course at the KICC, in Nairobi, Minister for Public Service Dalmas Otieno announced that the course will be available online free of charge for civil servants, students of economic development, the general public and the Kenyan Diaspora.
“The public servants, students, the press, the private sector, civil society, the public and the Kenyan Diaspora for whom this course is intended are expected each in their own way to contribute to the achievement of the goals of Kenya Vision 2030. I am therefore pleased to see that in this innovative way the Ministry of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 has made great strides to bring information to institutions and the public who will drive the plan and ensure that what we as a country have promised the future generations of Kenya will be fulfilled,†said Mr. Otieno.
The Minister, who presided over the launch of the Vision 2030 Online Course alongside the Communication Strategy for the Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 Ministry, said the online course would expand the knowledge base of civil servants and enable them appreciate the ties between their work and the long-term development strategy under Vision 2030.
Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 Minister, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya highlighted the objectives of the course as; to enhance skills particularly among civil service officers, improve efficiency in service delivery within the public service as well as reduce cost of staff training, enhance dissemination of development knowledge and promote public awareness and ownership of the Vision 2030.
“At the end of this course, participants will be offered a certificate of participation signifying full engagement in the discussion of the Vision 2030 and the related development initiatives,†said Mr. Oparanya.
He added that his Ministry will be tracking progress and use feedback from learners to keep improving on the course.
The minister at the same time noted that the Ministerial Information, Education and Communication (IEC) strategy also launched today, will “keep the fire burning in informing the public on what we must continue to do together to realize the Vision 2030 for a better life for the citizens of Kenya.â€
Speaking at the same meeting, UN Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Kenya Mr. Aeneas Chuma, termed the online course as a laudable achievement.
“The online course should not remain at the public service level, but should be extended to the counties, universities and other academic institutions, public libraries as well as to embassies to particularly reach Kenyans in the Diaspora,†said Mr. Chuma in a speech read on his behalf by Ms. Fatou Leigh.
He said a focus on raising awareness among Kenyans remains critical for the successful implementation of Kenya's Vision 2030.
Mr. Chuma assured the Government of UNDP's support in promoting sustainable development in Kenya based on the country's development blueprint, the Kenya Vision 2030.
On his part, Dr. Edward Sambili, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 termed the online course as a great innovation and thanked UNDP for continuous support of the Ministry's programs.
The PS said in future all documents produced by the Ministry will be availed online for wider accessibility.
To undertake the online course, one needs to log into www.vision2030online.go.ke and register so as to learn the six modules anchored on the Vision 2030 and answer 25 formative and 35 assessment questions.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will get an automatic generated electronic certificate.
