Courtesy Call Between Principal Secretary, State Deparment For Economic Planning, Dr. Bonface Makokha And Officials From World Resources Institute (WRI)
The State Department for Economic Planning deepens the Green Climate Agenda through Strategic Partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI).
The Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha earlier today, 30th May, 2025 held a courtesy call with officials from the World Resources Institute at the Treasury Building.
The discussions focused on the strategic approaches for integrating the climate agenda into the National Development Planning with a focus to effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Macro-Economic Modelling and overall Planning Processes.
During the deliberations, the parties explored how robust data systems, evidence-based planning, and dynamic economic models can support the country’s transition to a better climate-resilient economy.
Further emphasis was placed on aligning national development goals with the green growth strategies as well as continuous Capacity Building in order to ensure effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The WRI officials briefed the PS on their commitment to supporting Kenya’s efforts by providing technical assistance, funds allocation and sharing best practices that reinforce accountability and impact measurement in climate-related projects. The officials further emphasized on the importance of turning plans into actionable projects while considering the resources availability.
“This collaboration with the World Resources Institute will enable us to enrich climate considerations into the Economic Planning sphere of the Country, ” PS Makokha reiterated.
The engagement with the WRI reflects on the State Department’s broader goal to achieving the Nation’s climate change commitments while ensuring economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods for all Kenyans.
The meeting was graced by the World Resources Institute Senior Adviser, Crispian Olver, the State Department’s Ag. Economic Planning Secretaries, James Maina and Leah Chirchir among others.
