Mandate and Functions of the State Department

The State Department’s mandate and functions broadly cover issues of national and sectoral development planning. According to the Executive Order No. 1 of January 2023 on Organization of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, the functions of the State Department are:

  1. National and Sectoral Development Planning;
  2. National Statistics Management;
  3. National Census and Housing Surveys;
  4. Population Policy Management;
  5. Liaison with Economic Commission for Africa;
  6. Monitoring and Evaluation of Economic Trends; and
  7. Coordination of Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
