The Three day Strategic Engagement Workshop Officially opened in Mombasa County
Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha today 18/12/25, officially opened the ongoing Three day Strategic Engagement Workshop which is taking place in Mombasa County.
The Workshop themed: “Re-engineering the Strategic Focus for Economic Planning” comprises of the officers from the State Department for Economic Planning Top Management, Semi Autonomous Government Agencies and Heads of Central Project Planning Management Directorates.
In his address, PS Makokha implored on Planners to take advantage of the workshop to address issues affecting the Economic Planning of the Country.
The PS paused a number of questions to the planners to discuss even as they continue with their deliberations such as: “Why has the State Department for Economic Planning remained a footnote” yet it is the mouth piece of the economy and “What gaps exist in the State Department in the current structure” just to mention two.
He pointed that it is high time planners reclaimed their space since Economic Planning is the operating system of any given country.
In addition, the PS highlighted some of the achievements he has attained during the last seven (7) months. These include; open door policy in his office, acquired funds for monitoring and Evaluation that had zero budget, a commitment of 100m has been made to support the process of updating both NIMES and CIMES systems.
Th PS also noted that he has acquired funds for Capacity Building programme from AfDB as well as unlocking the KIPPRA land issue that has been going on for the last 20 years.
PS Makokha observed that the State Department has already come up with a draft Economic Planning Policy and Bill that will guide planners in their operations and economic planning of Kenya.
He assured the participants of his support in their endeavour to deliver the department’s mandate.
Present during the ceremony were; Director General Economic Planning, Masini Ichwara, KIPPRA Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu, Kenya Vision 2030 Secretariat Director General, Kenneth Mwige, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Director General, Dr. Mcdonald Obudho, National Council for Population and Development Director General, Dr. Mohamed Sheikh and Ag. Economic Planning Secretaries; Timothy Gakuu, James Maina, Festus Wangwe and Evelyn Anupi among other participants.
