The State Department for Economic Planning Third Top Management Strategic Meeting

The State Department for Economic Planning and its Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) today, Tuesday 3rd March, 2026 convened it’s third Top Management Strategic meeting at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS), Nairobi.

The high-level session hosted by the New Partnerships for Africa’s Development, African Peer Review Mechanisms (NEPAD/APRM) Kenya Secretariat brought together Senior Leadership to review progress on actionable resolutions and to further consolidate the sector’s strategic direction.

The meeting specifically focused on key Agendas which include: Setting priorities for the third quarter; reviewing of the Mid-Year status of Performance Contracting for the State Department and SAGAs; deliberating on matters under the Public Finance Management Standing Committee and addressing issues arising from the previous meeting.

While chairing the meeting on behalf of the Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha, the Economic Planning Director General Dr. Masini Ichwara, conveyed the PS’s call for SAGAs to make the most of the limited resources allocated to them.

He emphasized on the importance for effective utilization of funds and encouraged the Agencies to actively incorporate development partners to supplement financing and support their programmes.

DG Ichwara highlighted the importance of assessing progress under Kenya’s Vision 2030 and aligning priorities with the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV). He further underscored the need for credible budgeting and policy-driven planning underlining that projects should be anchored on clear policies to ensure continuity.

Additionally, the DG stressed on the need of sustaining the publicity of Gumzo la Uchumi Mashinani which targets all the forty seven (47)counties.

During the meeting, the Top Leadership received updates on implementation progress, discussed emerging challenges, areas of collaborations and agreed on collective measures to enhance performance and accountability.

Majorly, emphasis was placed on timely delivery of agreed targets, strengthened coordination across Agencies and adherence to Public Finance Management (PFM) standards.

The convocation serves as a renewed commitment to accelerate implementation of priority programmes and sustain momentum in achieving the State Department’s strategic objectives.

Present during the meeting were: NEPAD/APRM CEO, Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya; the NG-CDF CEO Yusuf Mbuno, the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat DG, Mr. Kenneth Mwige and the Ag. Economic Planning Secretaries Timothy Gakuu, James Maina, Festus Wangwe, Evelyn Anupi, among others.
