Meeting on FY2025/26 Medium-Term Budget

The State Department for Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha, has today, Monday, 12th May, 2025, convened a consultative meeting with the State Department Senior Officials and Director Generals from the Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) at the Treasury Building. The main agenda was to brief the team on the State Department’s Budget Estimates on Revenue and Expenditure status for the Financial Year 2025/26 as well as the Fiscal Rationalization.

 

The Principal Secretary is expected to appear before the National Assembly Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Planning on Tuesday 13th May, 2025 to discuss the Budget Estimates.

 

During the meeting, a comprehensive presentation of the deviation between the Financial Year 2025/26 Budget Estimates and the approved 2025 Budget Policy Statement ceilings which include among others the development allocation was done.

 

PS Makokha emphasized that the State Department and it’s SAGAs have undertaken the initiative to implement key priority areas which include; strengthening of Monitoring and Evaluation function, collection of Data and macroeconomic reporting and analysis, Communication and Capacity Building. These key priority areas align well with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) which helps in implementing the priority areas of the Fourth-Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) which runs up to 2027.

 

Additionally, a detailed review of the tracking and reporting of National Development Programmes execution, such as the Kenya Vision 2030, was made. This will help in fostering the core mandate of the State Department Monitoring and Evaluation and adequately support the Economic Planning Function.

 

The meeting served as a main platform for updating the State Department on the pertinent issues affecting the attainment of performance targets, provision of better funded projects and it’s value chains as at the FY 2025/26.

 

In attendance during the meeting was the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu, Secretary Administration, Haron Komen, SDEP Senior Officials, and Director Generals from the various SAGAs among others.
