SDEP Meets the Parliamentary Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning.

Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha, met with the Parliamentary Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning to consider the Budget Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the Financial Year 2025/26 at Bunge Towers on 13th May 2025 afternoon.

The purpose of the meeting chaired by the Molo Member of Parliament Hon. Kimani Kuria deliberated on matters regarding the budget policies, programmes, performance targets and expenditure ceilings of the State Department as contained in the Budget Estimates for FY 2024/25.

During the meeting, PS Dr. Makokha gave a comprehensive explanation of the significant differences between the Financial Year 2025/26 Budget Estimates and the expenditure limits that were previously set out in the approved 2025 Budget Policy Statement(BPS) ceilings.

He further highlighted the key areas of variances, clarified the reasons behind the changes while detailing the clear implications of these deviations on Economic Planning and resource allocation.

PS Makokha gave a briefing to the Departmental Committee on his findings during his three weeks tenure in the Office sighting visible financial difficulties in executing the State Department’s Core Mandate.

“The State Department remains committed in ensuring that the Government delivers the National Development Goals and Economic Planning Agenda. Towards achieving this, there is need to ensure that programmes and projects are adequately funded,” PS Dr.Makokha stated.

In addition, he emphasized that the funding considerations will support the State Department in fulfilling its core mandate, particularly through major initiatives such as the full implementation of the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP-IV) and the aligned priorities of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The PS was accompanied by the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu, Secretary Administration, Haron Komen, Senior Chief Finance Officer, Julia Ng’ang’a, NCPD Director General, Dr. Mohammed Sheikh, KIPPRA Acting Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu, the Kenya Vision 2030 Secretariat, Director General, Kenneth Mwige, NEPAD/APRM Chief Executive Officer, Dr.Samori Okwiya among others.
