Launch Of The Kenya Country Economic Transformation Outlook
The State Department for Economic Planning through the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), this afternoon launched the Kenya Country Economic Transformation Outlook (Kenya CETO) Policy Paper at a Nairobi Hotel.
During the launch, the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, James Maina, delivered a keynote address on behalf of the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha, highlighting that the Kenya CETO will serve as a guiding framework for the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The Policy Paper is a comprehensive gender-sensitive assessment of Kenya’s economic transformation progress and challenges while offering actionable policy recommendations to both public and non-public actors.
Additionally, its analysis uses the African Transformation Index (ATI) which is developed by the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET).
The ACET framework entails among other dimensions; Export competitiveness which measures the share of non extractive exports of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) both at the Country and global level.
This Policy Paper seeks to achieve the aspirations set out in the Kenya Vision 2030 and takes an in-depth approach to the sectors that are crucial to Kenya’s economic transformation.
Therefore, the Kenya CETO emphasizes the importance of gender-responsive policymaking encouraging the government to transition from gender-neutral approaches to those that account for the different economic realities faced by both men and women.
In attendance during the launch was the KIPPRA Ag. Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu, KNBS Director General, Dr. Macdonald Obudho and Economic Management and Governance, ACET Head, Brenda Chongo-Chanda among other Senior Officials.
