Meeting With The Development Effectiveness Group Team
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi earlier today, Wednesday, 17th September, 2025 held a consultative meeting with delegates from the Development Effective Group (DEG) team at the Treasury building.
The aim of the meeting was to revamp the Development Effective Group (DEG). This reactivation seeks to enhance collaboration and alignment between the government and the development partners therefore driving progress towards national development goals.
This meeting comes after the recently held Development Partnership Forum (DPF) which is hosted by the office of the Deputy President.
Moreover, for meaningful outcomes to be realized, a multi-faceted approach is necessary which involves: the Development Partnership Forum (DPF), the Development Effectiveness Group (DEG) and the Technical Joint Sector Working Group (TJSWG). The later is made up of 21 working sectors.
During the meeting, CS Mbadi underscored the need to revamp the DEG to enhance its effectiveness in developing outcomes through coming up with policies and directives that work among others.
On the other hand, the CS appointed the National Treasury Principal Secretary, Dr. Chris Kiptoo to be the Chair of the DEG.
On his part, PS Kiptoo emphasized on the importance of revamping the DEG and that the team should be agile and more responsive. He also added that the team should adopt a structured approach with a clear timetable and agenda for each sitting which will be cascaded down to the TJSWG.
The DEG team, led by the DPG Co- Chair Marie Ottoson, reiterated that there should be a timetable, develop effective working groups and work in a coordinated manner to achieve desired goals.
The State Department for Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha together with his counterpart from the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management, Cyrell Wagunda gave brief overview of their Departments functions and highlighted the importance of revitalizing the DEG and especially in advancing capacity building.
Present during the meeting were: the National Treasury Director General of Public Debt Management, Raphael Owino, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, DG, Dr. McDonald Obudho, Leigh Stubblefield, British High Commission and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) Fabio Hinniti among others.
