The Youth Devolution Festival 2025
The Youth Devolution Festival, 2025 hosted by the Coalition of Youth for Devolution, today, Thursday 2nd October marked its second day and brought together thousands of young people, government officials, policy experts and development partners for effective dialogue and innovation at the Maasai National Polytechnic, Kajiado County.
The three-day festival themed: Harnessing Devolution through Youth Empowerment, Innovation and Job Creation for Economic Growth, provides an interactive platform for skills development, entrepreneurship, climate-smart agriculture, digital innovation and inclusive governance.
Speaking during the festival, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha underscored the importance of aligning long-term national plans such as the Kenya Vision 2030 which helps in enhancing an improved quality of life for its citizens.
The PS further highlighted that the blueprint transforms Kenya into a newly industrialized nation by elevating the youth in shaping development plans for the future.
Additionally, he urged the youth to take centre stage in advocating for their space by collectively moving beyond short-term fixes to long-term plans.
“Shaping pathways for the future cannot be left to the government alone. It requires partnership, innovation and an active participation of the youth” PS Makokha reiterated.
PS Makokha’s presence reinforces the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and devolution. His participation helps to shape policies and programs that benefit young people and promote inclusive development.
During the event, different teams showcased vibrant panel discussions and mentorship sessions. The event highlighted activities well-designed to equip the youth with opportunities and practical tools to play a stronger role in governance and economic transformation.
At the festival, PS. Makokha visited various exhibition booths, including the Maasai National Polytechnic, the Huduma Mashinani and the National Transport and Safety Authority ( NTSA) among others.
The event reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to ensure that the youth remain at the centre of devolution by promoting innovation, job creation and meaningful participation in decision-making processes.
In attendance were; the Kajiado County Member of County Executive Committee (CECM), Education Vocational Training and Youth and Sports, Janet Sereu, the Kakamega County CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture, Jackline Masicha and County Directors among others.
