Verification Of Government Projects In Kilifi And Tana River Counties

The Economic Planning Director General (DG), Dr.Ichwara Masini, is at the Coast on a multi-agency verification visit, where he will also visit the Galana Kulalu Irrigation Scheme. This field visit is organized by the Government Delivery Unit (GDU).

The purpose of the visit is to highlight and document the implementation process and status update of government projects aligned to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and sectoral planning under the Forth Medium-Term Plan IV (MPT IV), which is the mandate of the State Department for Economic Planning.

The DG’s visit will also help outline the role of the County Planning Directors and officers which include strengthening coordination, policy formulation and direction across government.

While at the Coast on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026, Dr. Ichwara, paid a courtesy call to the Kilifi North Sub-County Accountant, Margaret Mwanyiro, with the aim of gaining insight into the operations and performance of the State Department’s office at the Sub-County level.

During the engagement, the team briefed the DG on their day-to-day activities and coordination mechanisms with other Government Departments. They also outlined several challenges affecting service delivery, including resource constraints.

On his part, the DG commended the team for their commitment and transparency, emphasizing the importance of accountability.

He further assured the team that their concerns would be taken into consideration at the National level and encouraged them to strengthen collaboration, embrace data-driven planning as well as remain proactive in addressing emerging challenges.

DG Ichwara reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to supporting Sub-County offices in enhancing efficiency and ultimately improve service delivery to the public.
