The 2nd Preparatory Meeting For G7 Taskforce And Working Groups

The State Department for Foreign Affairs today, Wednesday, 8th April, 2026 convened a high-level Group of Seven (G7) Development Ministerial meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building.

 

The forum serves as a critical step in Kenya’s strategic preparations for  the G7 Summit which is set to take place in June 2026, in France.

 

The G7 Taskforce is a specialized team formed to address key issues that bring major Global Economies together. Within the taskforce, smaller units known as working groups focuces on specific thematic areas such as the Economy, Climate and Gender.

 

This meeting deliberated   on aligning Kenya’s National priorities and refining its strategy for an effective participation at the summit. Other than National interests, the preparations aims  at advancing a broader continental agenda which includes  Kenya, working towards helping Africa present a unified position.

 

Speaking during the meeting, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha, underscored the importance of repositioning Kenya at the global stage. Kenya should present itself not merely as a beneficiary of International systems but as a strategic partner, he added.

 

According to the PS, the Country’s messaging should highlight Africa as a central player in global markets.

 

PS Makokha pointed out that Kenya’s Social Health Authority (SHA) model is a good example of innovation that contributes to both social protection and economic stability.

 

He further stressed that Kenya should take a leadership role by demonstrating a strong understanding of global challenges and actively shaping International development policy.

 

On his part, the State Department for Foreign Affairs (SDFA) Principal Secretary, Dr. Korir Sing’oei urged on the need of adopting a proactive approach as well as timely preparations in order to strengthen Kenya’s influence during summit discussions.

 

One of the key recommendations, which came out of that  meeting was  to establish an Advisory Committee. The  Committee  will comprise  of representatives from; The National Treasury, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), New Partnerships for Africa’s Development, Africa’s Peer Review Mechanisms (NEPAD/APRM) Kenya Secretariat, Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) and the World Bank among others.

 

The proposed Advisory Committee will help guide Kenya’s engagement at the Summit based on the  four main pillars including; crafting a new development narrative, promoting data-driven decision-making, strengthening modern International partnerships and enhancing operational efficiency.

 

As the team prepares to represent Kenya at the G7 Summit, the groundwork being laid is expected to position the Country as an influential global contributor by transforming impactful discussions into meaningful opportunities for growth and resilience.
