State Department for Economic Planning to Partner with World Resources Institute to address Climate Risks

The State Department for Economic Planning will partner with the World Resources Institute in building resilience and managing climate-related risks in Kenya.

Speaking when he hosted officials of the World Resources Institute at his office in the National Treasury Building on April 15th, 2024, Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati said that both parties were committed to seeking solutions to shield communities against the vagaries of climate.

“Through joint efforts and clear strategic planning, we are committed to enhancing the country’s capacity to adapt to environmental risks thereby safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of those most at risk,” said PS Muhati, adding that the partnership will provide a way of enriching the Economic Planning career in the country.

The discussions would be actualised through the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which would outline the steps required to achieve the shared goals.

World Resources Institute representatives present were Prof. Karanja Njoroge and Joan Nthiga. The meeting was also attended by Directors of Planning Benson Kiriga, Leah Chirchir and Terry Kimonye among others.
