Capacity Building Programme For County Governments On Economic Planning And Strengthening National-County Integration Mechanisms And Second Annual Progress Report Launch
The State Department for Economic Planning has Launched its Capacity Building Programme for County Governments on Economic Planning and Strengthening National-County Integration Mechanisms and the Second Annual Progress Report (APR II) of the Medium Term Plan IV (MTP-IV) respectively, today Tuesday 7th October, 2025 in Busia County.
These initiatives reflect the Government’s commitment to strengthening National and County integration as well as advancing sustainable development while promoting environmental stewardship.
While Officially launching the programme, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi acknowledged the Economic Planning Department pivotal role in implementing this project.
“This Capacity Building deepens synergies between the National and County governments to foster Kenya’s socio-economic prosperity” CS Mudavadi said.
PCS Mudavadi further reiterated that this programme will advance sustainable development as well as promote responsible management of our natural resources and ecosystems.
On his part, The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. FCPA John Mbadi underscored that the Capacity Building programme serves as a cornerstone in promoting inclusive and participatory planning while mainstreaming gender, youth, climate change and marginalized groups.
In addition, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha noted that the Department is focused on building capacity building for its planners by taking it down to the grassroots.
Simultaneously, the Second Annual Progress Report of the MTP-IV launch was done. The report serves as a key component of the Kenya Vision 2030 blueprint and covers the Financial Year 2024/25 by providing updates on the progress made.
The MTP-IV aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) is geared towards economic turnaround for inclusive growth in order to foster an innovative and entrepreneurial workforce.
The capacity building programme brings together County Directors of Planning, representatives from Governors’ offices, Chairs of County Assembly Finance and Planning Committees together with National Government Officers from the State Department.
In attendance during the event were; the Vihiga County Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Matayos Member of Parliament Geoffrey Makokha, Busia Deputy Governor Kizito Osore, NCPD Director General, Mohamed Sheikh, KIPPRA Executive Director Eldah Onsomu, NG-CDF Chief Executive Officer, Yusuf Mbuno and SDEP staff among other invited guests
