National Treasury Cs Holds A Press Briefing On The Budget Making Process With The Kenya National Students Forum

This afternoon Thursday 18th, December 2025, the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. FCPA John Mbadi, held a media briefing at his Treasury Building office Nairobi, to receive a consent report from the Kenya National Students Budget Making Process Forum from universities and Colleges across the country.

The forum will serve as a mentorship programme, allowing students to learn, benchmark and also bridge the gap between the young and the older generation in the financial matters of this country.

The fiscal year 2026/27 will see young people participate in the budget making process for the first time.

It is part of the country’s effort to promote transparency and accountability in governance, as mandated by Article 201(a) of the Constitution of Kenya and the Public Finance Management Act, 2012 (PMF).

The forum will give students and young people an opportunity to engage and participate in Public Participation of the budget making process.

They will be able to contribute to budget proposals and policy discussions, improve budget relevance, ensure budget allocations, address community needs and priorities, fostering transparency and accountability, through openness in budget making processes and government spending.

Those who wish to attend and participate in the budget making process will  join public forums like open barazas and workshops organized by the National Assembly Budget Committee or other stakeholders and submit budget proposals and feedback through designated channels, such as the National Treasury’s website.

They will also be required to engage with the Sector Working Groups, consisting of representatives from government, private sector and civil society.

Present during the briefing was a representative from the Budget Department at National Treasury Mr. Samuel Kiiru.
