A high-level delegation from the New Partnerships for Africa’s Development, African Peer Review Mechanisms (NEPAD/APRM) Kenya Secretariat today Wednesday, 28th January, 2026 paid a courtesy call to the Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha at his Treasury Building.

While representing the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi, in a meeting that also brought together senior officials of the APRM Continental Secretariat in South Africa, the PS expressed appreciation for their presence and warmly welcomed them to Kenya.

The APRM Continental Secretariat serves as the AU specialised entity for governance, coordinating with NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat to promote political stability, economic growth and sustainable development across Africa.

In their brief, the team updated the PS on the primary objective of the meeting which was to inform him about the preparatory engagements leading up to the Targeted Review on Youth and Devolution issues.

They further briefed the PS that the engagement forms part of a broader pre-planning process following Kenya’s request to the African Union for a Targeted Review on Youth Issues under the APRM.

During the session, the team outlined the scope, objectives and strategic importance of the forthcoming review while underscoring the central role of Economic Planning in advancing inclusive and youth-responsive governance.

The APRM Continental Secretariat CEO Dr. Marie Rose, underscored that the Targeted Review on Youth Issues is anticipated to play a key role in shaping future youth policy reforms and reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to inclusive governance at both national and continental levels.

The review is anchored on strengthening evidence-based policy making and enhancing youth participation in governance, economic development and national planning processes.

The discussions during the engagement focused on aligning National development priorities with the APRM framework, particularly in relation to youth employment, innovation and economic inclusion.

On his part, PS Makokha reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to a participatory, well-inclusive and youth-centred review process that will generate effective practical recommendations.

The PS highlighted that the targeted review is well-aligned with the Government’s national youth priorities as outlined in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The courtesy call underscores Kenya’s continued leadership in promoting dialogue, accountability and structured engagement with young people as a critical force for sustainable development.

Present during the meeting were: The NEPAD/APRM Kenya NGC Chairperson, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong, NEPAD/APRM Kenya Panel of Eminent Persons Incoming Chair Prof. Olive Mugenda, NEPAD/APRM Kenya CEO Dr. Samori Okwiya and the Economic Planning Director General Dr. Masini Ichwara among other Senior Dignitaries.
