‎President William Ruto today officially opened the Devolution Conference 2025 at the Homa Bay National School, Homa Bay County.

This year’s Devolution Conference themed: “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.” aligns with the forum’s objectives that is evident in several ways, including Promoting Equity and Inclusion, addressing Socio-Economic Challenges and Fostering Partnerships and Collaboration.

In addition, the sub-theme, “Re-engineering County Governments to Accelerate Development and Close the Socio-Economic Divide,” emphasizes on the importance of county governments in driving equitable development.

This is ultimately aimed at bridging the gap between different regions, communities and ensuring that all citizens have access to opportunities and resources that promote their well-being and prosperity.

The conference is held after every two years and it is organized by the Council of Governors (CoG) in partnership with other stakeholders.

During his address, the President emphasized on the importance of devolution in driving the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He highlighted its potential to promote equity, inclusion and social justice and to fast-track development at the county level.

” This biennial devolution conference is therefore a moment to take stock, celebrate gains and re-imagine how we can accelerate progress for every county and Kenyans” President Ruto said.

‎As he delivered his speech during the conference, President Ruto noted that this year’s theme is timely, given the current socio-economic landscape and the need for accelerated development in our Counties.

“This year’s theme speaks directly to our National Vision. A Kenya where every citizen regardless of region, gender, background or status has a fair and equal opportunity to thrive”

The State Department for Economic Planning, Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha, joined other dignitaries in marking this year’s Devolution Conference.

The Principal Secretary’s presence reinforced the State Department’s key role in promoting devolution and improving inclusive growth and development in Kenya.

On closing, President Ruto reiterated that counties are a focal point for delivering essential services and implementing development projects. Moreover, they promote economic growth, improve living standards and enhance the overall well-being of it’s citizens.

The event was also attended by the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger, the Chairperson Council of Governors, FCPA Ahmed Abdullahi, the Homa Bay County Governor,
Hon. Gladys Wanga, Governors from various Counties, Senators, Members of Parliament among others.
