Economic Planning Dr. Bonface Makokha acquaints himself with the operations of SDEP Directorates

The newly appointed Principal Secretary for the State Department for Economic Planning Dr. Bonface Makokha spent his day acquainting himself with the operations of some of the Directorates within the Department on 23/4/25. He first met the Strategy, Coordination and Management Directorate team.

 

The Directorate is responsible for overall coordination and management of performance, standards, strategy, resource mobilization and capacity building within the State Department as well as coordination and management of Central Planning and Project Monitoring Departments (CPPMDs) across Ministries and Departments. The PS was taken through the presentation by the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, (EPS) Timothy Gakuu.

 

Thereafter, the Principal Secretary visited the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics where he was met by Senior officials led by the Director General Dr. MacDonald Obudho.  The DG apprised the PS on the functions of the bureau and what the bureau required to ensure efficiency in service delivery.

 

Among other responsibilities the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics is the Principle agency of government for the collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical information.

 

The Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Public Investment Management (MELPIM) Directorate was the last to be visited as the PS finalized his meet and greet sessions for the day. The Principal Secretary was briefed by the Head of the Directorate Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, James Maina.

 

The Directorate is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the National Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation System; institutionalization of knowledge management in the Public Sector; and tracking and evaluating implementation of public investments.

 

In all the Directorates visited, the Principal Secretary was taken through the functions of the Directorates, Staff Establishments, Progress, pending issues and challenges facing the Directorates.

 

In his remarks, PS Makokha promised to give his full support and ensure facilitation for smooth running of the Directorates.

 

During the sessions, the PS was accompanied by Ag. EPS, Timothy Gakuu, Ag. EPS, James Maina, Ag. EPS, Leah Chirchir, Ag. EPS, Festus Wangwe and the Senior Assistast Secretary, Hezron Nyamberi, among others.
