Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati holds meeting at Treasury Building with MSMEs Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni and the KNBS team

Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati this afternoon held a meeting at Treasury Building with his counter part from the State Department for MSMEs Susan Mang’eni and a team from KNBS led by the DG Dr Mcdonald Obudho. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways in which a survey is going to be conducted to update MSMEs data that was last updated in 2016. PS Mang’eni said that to achieve their mandate the State Department for MSMEs will need to use updated data and would want KNBS which is the authority in data collection to undertake the exercise together with other stakeholders. She pointed out that she will provide the required resources to enable KNBS carry out the exercise. She said she would have wished to have the updated data by time the International MSMEs Day is celebrated on 27/6/2024.

PS Muhati noted that since there’s a starting point already what is required now is a plan and roadmap and its cost to guide the process. He stated that everything begins and ends with data so it’s important that the data is of high quality, timely and reliable. On it’s part KNBS DG said that the reason they had not done the survey was due to limited resources but were committed and ready to undertake the exercise. He said they already have a team in place to carry out this particular exercise. They requested to have a meeting with the technical team from MSMEs tomorrow so as to come up with a Roadmap that will guide on cost, time, and personnel required to carry out the survey.

Present during the meeting was among others Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu, Directors of Planning David Kiboi, Benson Kimani, Dr. Justus Makau and KNBS Directors Collins Omondi and Nderitu.
