Economic Planning Principal Secretary Secretary James Muhati met with the NCPD Director General, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed and the UNFPA Country Director, Anders Thomsen to discuss 57th Commission on Population and Development(CPD) Preparations.

 

The DG, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed delivered a comprehensive briefing outlining preparations for the upcoming 57th Commission on Population and Development (CPD) in New York.

He also emphasized the importance of Kenya’s participation in shaping international agenda and policies related to population issues.

 

With the 57th CPD Forum certain to address key themes such as sustainable development, gender equality, and youth empowerment, Kenya stands at the forefront of advancing progressive strategies and advocating for inclusive solutions.

 

During the briefing, the DG highlighted Kenya’s proactive approach towards aligning national priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those pertaining to population dynamics, health, and socio-economic development.

 

Additionally, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed underscored the importance of addressing emerging challenges such as rapid urbanization, demographic shifts, and the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations. By fostering multi-sectoral partnerships and harnessing the demographic dividend, Kenya aims to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs and advancing the well-being of its citizens.

 

The meeting also discussed the launch of the ICPD@30 a side event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).

Other areas, the briefing meeting touched on included key priorities and objectives for Kenya’s participation in the 57th CPD, including: Advocating for policies that promote reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and access to comprehensive sexual education. Other objectives include,showcasing innovative programs and interventions aimed at empowering youth, promoting women’s economic empowerment, and enhancing access to quality healthcare services. es.
