THE ECONOMIC SURVEY REPORT 2026 OFFICIAL LAUNCH
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. FCPA John Mbadi today, Wednesday, 29th April, 2026 officially launched the Economic Survey Report 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The Report prepared by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and other key Stakeholders presents a comprehensive data, particularly focusing on developments made in 2025. It provides detailed sectoral analysis and statistical indicators intended to guide the monitoring of National priorities.
While presiding over the launch, CS Mbadi emphasized that there is value in data and Statistics. He reaffirmed the government’s focus on prudent fiscal management, stronger revenue collection and support for productive sectors to sustain economic progress.
CS Mbadi underscored that the findings contained in the report will guide the implementation of the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV) which aligns well with the Country's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The CS further noted that the Affordable Housing Program is boosting employment by stimulating activity in construction and other related sectors hence accelerating progress towards inclusive economic advancement.
During the launch, the KNBS Director General Dr. Macdonald Obudho presented the key findings of the Kenya Economic Survey Report 2026, highlighting the Country’s recent economic performance and sectoral developments.
Additionally, he outlined trends in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth from the year 2021 to 2025, inflation, employment and trade while also examining the contributions of key sectors such as Agriculture, Manufacturing, Energy, Construction and Social Services among others.
"Kenya’s GDP growth slightly declined to 4.6% in 2025 from 4.7% in 2024, indicating a modest slowdown in economic momentum," Dr. Obudho stated.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary Timothy Gakuu, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha underscored that the Report's statistics serve as a critical tool for evidence-based planning and policy formulation.
"The KNBS is the backbone of a National Statistical System" PS Makokha reiterated adding that the report is expected to play a critical role in assessing progress towards the Country's development frameworks including the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Generally, the 2026 Economic Survey Report provides insights into fiscal performance, public debt and external balances offering a comprehensive overview of Kenya’s economic outlook and policy priorities for sustained development.
The release of the Economic Survey Report 2026, marks an important role in shaping informed economic decisions hence offering a transparent roadmap for the Nation's future growth.
