Pensions Conference and Expo. 2023 held at the KICC, Nairobi on 28th to 29th November, 2023.

The Economic Planning Principal Secretary , James Muhati,  officiated as the Chief guest during the opening of a two day inaugural Pensions Conference and Expo. 2023 held at the KICC, Nairobi on 28th to 29th November, 2023. This was the first Pensions Conference to be held in the country.

The Conference themed: “Enhancing Social Protection for  Inclusive Growth,”  aimed to bring together industry experts drawn from Public and Private Sectors, policymakers, regulators, and pension clients representatives among other stakeholders to dialogue and figure out a beter way of attracting more savings and prudent investments.

The conference was also planned to provide a platform for pension industry players to showcase and explain their products and services to the general public.

The event which was organized by the Nation Media Group in partnership with the Institute of Pension Management was put together to promote and encourage people to prioritize and commence to channel their contributions to pension schemes early enough and not wait until their retirement age approaches.

During the deliberations, it was noted that a larger number of Kenya’s population remained uncovered under the existing pension schemes due to varying reasons.

This calls for urgent formulation of financial literacy framework and  policies that will aggressively promote awareness creation to change the attitudes of the public.

Other issues discussed include: understanding Social Protection, making social protection systems, strategies to accelerate inclusion and an integrated social protection system.

The official opening ceremony was also attended by: Pensions  Secretary Michael Kagika,  Acting Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu, and Jane Muyanga who represented the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Social Protection among others.
