Kenya to Host the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank

Kenya will host the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group which will take place from 27th to 31st May 2024 in Nairobi.

 

The theme for this year meetings is: ‘Africa’s Transformation, African Development Bank Group, and Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.’

The Government of Kenya and representatives of the Abidjan-based lender have held a series of meetings in preparation for the high-level event which will provide an opportunity for knowledge dissemination among high-level decision makers in Africa.

 

Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati, who is the leader of the Kenyan delegation, chaired a bilateral meeting held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on 2nd May 2024 where he noted that preparations were in top-gear. The talks were also attended by representatives of the African Development Bank in Congo Brazzaville, where the Bank’s 2025 Annual Meetings will take place.

 

On 7th May, 2024, African Development Bank Secretary General Prof. Vincent Nmehielle and the National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u were briefed on the progress made in the preparations in a meeting held at the Bomas of Kenya.

 

At least 28 Heads of State and Government are expected to attend the Nairobi meeting.

Others invited are Governors or Ministers of Finance from various countries in the continent.

The preparations drew to a close in a meeting held at Treasury Building on 8th May, 2024. During this meeting, National Treasury Principal secretary Dr. Chris Kiptooo and Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati observed that all necessary and projected preparations have been put in place and the Kenya is ready to host the AFDB 2024 Annual Meetings.

 

In a statement, the African Development Bank stated that the meetings will fast-track structural transformation in Africa as a panacea for faster socio-economic transformation.

 

“The knowledge events will also address the importance of a reconfigured global financial architecture as an engine for structural transformation, and the Bank Group’s contribution towards Africa’s socio-economic transformation in its 60 years of existence,” the statement read.
