Launch of Fertilizer Subsidy Programme (FSP)

Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua has said that the Kenya Kwanza Government is determined to bring down the cost of living. He said that the Government is working round the clock to lower the cost of food especially the Maize Flour which is widely consumed in the country.

He reiterated that the Government strategy to register farmers nationwide was a noble idea adding that the Fertilizer Subsidy Programme should be fast tracked so that the farmers can use it in the coming long rainy season. “Affordable cost of food will lead to peace and good governance will be seamless. No leader in the world wants to lead hungry people.” DP Gachugua said.

The Deputy President said this while officially opening the Sensitization Workshop of the 12 Phase 1 Counties on the Fertilizer Subsidy Programme(FSP) held at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) today.
He tasked the County Commissioners to work with the Chief Officers in the Counties and other Stakeholders to ensure that the Government delivers on the promises they made to the people.

The DP mentioned that the Fertilizer Subsidy Programme will be digitally managed. This will be executed through issuance of E- Vouchers, and use of other technologies to ensure that there is traceability.
This will also block crafty individuals from diverting the product and depriving the farmers.
The Subsidized Fertilizer will cost the farmers Ksh.3,500 down from the current market price of Ksh.6,500. The Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) has already sourced for the fertilizer and has put systems in place for effective distribution. It will be stored in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.

Attending the sensitization workshop were Cabinet Secretary, Simon Chelugui, Economic Planning Principal Secretary, James Muhati, other Principal Secretaries, representatives from the Council of Governors, Deputy County Commissioners among others.
