Meeting Between The State Department For Economic Planning And The Kenya Institute For Public Policy Research And Analysis (KIPPRA)

Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha held a consultative meeting with officials from the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) at the Treasury Building on 5th June 2025 afternoon.

‎The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the analyzed research data collected by the KIPPRA in regards to the 2025 Finance Bill.

‎During the meeting, the KIPPRA Ag. Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu did a comprehensive presentation on the Analysis report of the Finance Bill 2025.

‎Moreover, a matrix review of the analysis included; verification of online claims, proposed amendments of the income tax, excise duty, value added tax act and change of rates of excise duty.

‎This report assesses Kenya’s effectiveness in leveraging fiscal policy touching on poverty and inequality reduction goals, distribution of taxation and public spending at both national and sub-national levels.

‎In addition, a brief outline on the Future of the KIPPRA’s Report was also highlighted. The report proposes how the “Future KIPPRA” will continue enhancing delivery of its mandate.

‎PS Makokha lauded the team’s collaborative effort in coming up with a well detailed Analysis report on the Finance Bill 2025.

‎In attendance during the meeting was the Ag. Economic Planning Secretaries , Timothy Gakuu, Leah Chirchir, James Maina, Festus Wangwe, senior staff from SDEP and KIPPRA among others.
