National Treasury and Economic Planning staff engages in a tree planting exercise at Muumandu forest in Machakos County

The National Treasury and Economic Planning today engaged in a tree planting exercise  at Muumandu forest in Machakos County in a bid to fulfil the agenda for the National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign which was launched in 2022 by His Excellency, The President, Dr.William Samoei Ruto.

The team which was led by the National Treasury Director of Administration, Dennis Rotich on behalf of the National Treasury and Economic Planning  Cabinet Secretary, CPA John Mbadi targeted to plant a total of 56,000 seedlings which is part of the 10 million target to be  planted per year by the National Treasury and Economic Planning.

CS Mbadi urged the locals to take the tree planting initiative as a  personal responsibility in order to achieve the Jaza Miti initiative which aims to plant and restore tree cover across 10.6m hectares of degraded areas.

The Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu who represented the Principal Secretary for Economic Planning, James Muhati reiterated that citizens should plant different tree species in their homesteads in order to help combat climate change and improve our ecosystem.

CS Mbadi thanked all the stakeholders for effortlessly supporting the tree planting initiatives which made it possible for the National Treasury and Economic Planning to make great strides towards achieving the set tree growing targets in Machakos and Kericho areas.

In attendance were:  DCC, Machakos County, David Rotich, Kenneth Kimuyu, Director Administration (SDEP), Director NG-CDF, National  Government Administration Officers, The National Treasury and Economic Planning  Staff among other stakeholders.
