THE 2026 INAUGURAL MEETING BETWEEN THE ECONOMIC PLANNING PRINCIPAL SECRETARY AND THE HEADS OF DEPARTMENT
Earlier today, Tuesday, 13th January 2026, the State Department for Economic Planning (SDEP) Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha, held a consultative meeting with the Heads of Department (HoDs) at the Treasury building.
The meeting, which is the first this year, aimed to evaluate performance verses targets, set the tone for the remaining part of the 2025/26 financial year, and address other issues.
Addressing the meeting, PS Makokha called on the HoDs to assess their performance, adopt best practices, and foster teamwork for SDEP to achieve and implement its mandate.
Additionally, the PS highlighted that there is a need for the Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) to collaborate with each other and with the State Department.
PS Makokha also outlined priorities for the second half of 25/26, which include, among others, strengthening delivery capacity, conducting in-house training for new staff on SDEP mandates and functions, and increasing visibility.
On closing, the PS urged everyone to do their part, stressed on the importance of teamwork, and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting all staff, adding that his door is always open.
Present during the meeting were: the Director General, Dr. Masini Ichwara, the Secretary Administration, Dr. Haron Komen, Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, Festus Wangwe, among others.
