Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha makes a familiarization tour of the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat

Economic Planning Principal Secretary Dr. Bonface Makokha on 5th May 2025  morning had his final day of Meet and Greet Sessions, and made a familiarization tour of the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat. On arrival the PS was met by the Chief Executive Officer Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya and other Senior officials from the Secretariat.

 

As outlined in the Gazette Notice No. 4651 of 2016, the Secretariat is responsible for promoting Kenya’s effective participation in the activities of the New Partnership for African Development  (NEPAD) and the domestication of the African Union (AU) mission, core principles  and values, provide leadership, guidance and direction to the implementation of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Kenya just to mention a few.

The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat CEO,  Amb. Dr. Okwiya took the PS through a presentation highlighting the history and Institutional framework, mandate and functions, role of The Secretariat in positioning Kenya strategically at the continent, key achievements  and challenges facing the Secretariat.

In response Dr. Makokha committed to give support to the Secretariat to ensure they deliver on their mandate.

Meanwhile, this afternoon, the Principal Secretary  finalised the Sessions by meeting the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat team led by the Director General Kenneth Mwige.

 

The Kenya Vision 2030 is the County’s long-term  national development plan. It aims to transform Kenya into “a newly industralizing Middle-income country providing a high quality of life to all citizens in a clean and secure environment ” by 2030. The Vision is implemented through successive 5 year Medium Term Plans since 2008. The fourth medium term plan is the last five- year medium term plan, which will transition the country to the next Long Term development plan.

 

The Secretariat DG Kenneth Mwige took  the PS through some of the Key Programmes being undertaken by the Secretariat, Staff establishment, Challenges the Secretariat is facing and the Next steps they intend to take.

The Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat staff were excited to meet the Principal Secretary who visited and  interacted with them in their offices.

While making his remarks Dr. Makokha said that his vision will be  data driven, people focused and result oriented as this will form a strong base for any actions to be taken.

 

The PS emphasized on the need to work with a motivated staff by ensuring their morale is boosted and that the work environment is conducive.

He  committed to look into all matters raised by the Secretariat with a view to finding  workable solutions.

During the tour the PS was accompanied by Ag. EPS Festus Wangwe, the SDS, Hezron Nyamberi and Ag. EPS James Maina who is also the alternate Director in the Secretariat.
