 Ladies and Gentlemen

I take this opportunity to welcome you to the 6th Vision 2030 Knowledge Sharing Workshop. The theme of this event; Accelerating Vision 2030 through the Big 4 Agenda, is underpinned by our Country’s long term development blue print Kenya Vision 2030.

Kenya Vision 2030 is the national long-term development blue-print whose aim is to create a globally competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life by 2030. The implementation of Vision 2030 is a progressive process that is characterized by clear goals and milestones to be achieved over time. It is implemented in successive 5-year cycles called Medium Term Plans (MTPs). The first MTP was implemented between 2008 and 2012 and the second MTP for the period 2013-2017. The Third MTP (MTP III) 2018-2022, was launched last year after a thorough consultative process; the main focus being the Big 4 Agenda which H.E. the President has declared as the main focus during this Plan period.

The Big 4 Agenda targets comprise;

  1. Enhancing manufacturing from 9.2% to 15% of GDP by 2022;
  2. 100% food security and nutrition;
  3. 100% Universal Health Coverage (UHC); and
  4. 500,000 affordable housing by 2022.

There is need to leverage on the development and political goodwill of the Big 4 Agenda to move the economy towards a high growth trajectory to achieve 7% annual economic growth rate anticipate by the end of the MTP III plan period. The attainment of the above calls for concerted efforts in the implementation of Vision 2030 projects in tandem with the Big Four Agenda.

Ladies and Gentlemen, It is in this context that the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat (VDS) convenes this year’s Knowledge Sharing Workshop. The implementers of Vision 2030 play a pivotal role in the development process. This Workshop brings together technical representatives of all implementing agencies to deliberate on the best way to fast track the achievement of the Vision within the MTP III period and framework.

It is in this forum that we will not only integrate synergies between implementation of the Big 4 Agenda and Vision 2030 projects but also seek to share experiences, challenges, lessons learnt in the implementation of Vision 2030 projects as we chart a way forward in realization of MTP III goals.

Thank you and God bless you.
