Response to Issues Concerning One Stop Border Posts

The National Treasury and Planning Chief Administrative Secretary, Eric Simiyu Wafukho, appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration this morning on behalf of CS National Treasury and Planning , CS Amb. Ukur Yattani to respond to a number of issues raised by the Committee to the Ministry concerning One Stop Border Posts.

The issues raised included what the Government through Treasury is doing to address the traffic congestion witnessed at Malaba One Stop Border Post in the recent past and to ensure that the Border Post and all One Stop Border Posts around the country upgrade their infrastructure , integrate the needs of vulnerable population including Persons With Disability and build their capacity and equipment to trully serve the country and the East African Community.

Malaba One Stop Border Post is a critical Post which brings to Kenya through KRA about Kshs 400m per month in revenue and has capacity to bring in more revenue and create jobs for young people from western Kenya and the country if it is expanded and managed well with adequate funding and equipment. Between January and December 2021, the Border Post handled 700,000 trucks.
