The African Center For Economic Transformation (ACETt) Team Pays A Courtesy Call To The Economic Planning Principal Secretary

A team from the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) paid a courtesy call to the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha at the Treasury Building today, Thursday, 10th July, 2025.

The ACET team was flanked by representatives from the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) led by the Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu.

Jointly, they updated the PS on the recently launched Policy Paper; the Kenya Country Economic Transformation Outlook (Kenya CETO) and its implications on the Kenya’s economic development.

During the meeting, key findings and recommendations of the Kenya CETO Policy Paper were discussed. They further highlighted on the crucial areas of collaboration and potential strategies for implementing the Policy Paper.

In their brief, they gave an in-depth overview of the CETO Phase I and Phase II initiatives depicting the key outputs and outcomes of the two phases focusing on their impacts at both the National and Regional level.

The report which has a detailed framework uses a range of indicators to measure performance. Some of these indicators are Human Well-being and Digital and Innovation economy for improved competitiveness that measures the Country’s socio-economic transformation.

On his part, PS Makokha expressed appreciation for the effort applied in the research and analysis towards the implementation of the Kenya CETO.

In addition, the PS emphasized on the importance of evidence-based policy making which plays a critical role in the economic turn-around.

PS Makokha signified on the relevance of embracing policy ownership, harnessing community of practice and leveraging on national statistical systems.

The meeting forged a stronger relationship hence opening doors for future collaborations through involvement of other stakeholders in establishing a National Working Group for the execution of the Kenya CETO policy initiatives.

In attendance were; the ACET Economic and Governance Head, Brenda Chongo-Chanda, ACET Senior Policy Advisor, Prof.Julius Gatune, ACET Senior Economist, Richmond Commodore, the Economic Planning Secretaries, James Maina, Leah Chirchir and KIPPRA Senior Policy Analyst, Anne Gitonga among others.
