The Multi-Agency Project Verification To Galana Kulalu Irrigation, Food Security And Enabling Infrastructure Exercise

The multi-agency project verification visit focusing on food security and key infrastructure projects under the Galana Kulalu initiative kicked off today Thursday, 26th March, 2026 across Kilifi and Tana River Counties respectively.

The exercise which has brought together key stakeholders and implementing Agencies is coordinated by the Government Delivery Unit (GDU) under the Whole of Government Approach.

Furthermore, the verification visit forms part of the ongoing efforts to assess progress, strengthen coordination and accelerate delivery of critical National development priorities.

The day-one activities commenced at the Galana Kulalu Farm, where review of the irrigation and food security components of the project was done. The delegation then proceeded to the Galana Kulalu Bridge and evaluated the infrastructure designed to enhance connectivity within the neighbouring constituencies.

Further, inspections were carried out on Electrification and Baricho Bridge projects among others. These schemes aim at improving energy access as well as water supply in the region.

During the exercise, the Economic Planning Director General (DG), Dr. Masini Ichwara underscored the importance of effective communication and collaboration hence overcoming implementation challenges and expediting project completion.

The DG highlighted that the initiative supports the acceleration of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) pillars, with a special focus on Agriculture and Food Security.

The validation reinforces the importance of Inter-Agency collaboration and Government’s focus on delivering transformative infrastructure that supports economic growth. The initiative will help improve livelihoods for communities in the Coastal region.

In attendance during the verification exercise were the: GDU Ag. Head, Sitati Olando, Coast Regional Commissioner, Rhoda Onyancha, GDU Coast Regional Director, Sherry Litunya and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Director General and Eng. Jackson Mogundu among other senior officials .
