The Official Launch of the Public Sector Hearings for the FY 2026/27 and the Medium Term Budget
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi Ng’ongo earlier today, Wednesday, 19th November, 2025 officially launched the Public Sector Hearings on the proposed Financial Year 2026/27 and Medium-Term Budget at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The launch marks the beginning of a three-day National Exercise aimed at upholding transparency, accountability, and public participation in the budget-making process.
Moreover, this exercise is in accordance with Article 201(a) of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 36 of the Public Finance Management Act (Cap. 412A).
During the Inauguration, CS Mbadi emphasized on the need for prudent macro-economic planning, equitable resource allocation and impactful economic stability that is suitable for the Common Mwananchi.
CS Mbadi further reiterated on the importance of active stakeholder engagement in shaping expenditure priorities and aligning the national resources with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
In addition, the National Treasury Principal Secretary, Dr. Chris Kiptoo made a presentation on the Macro-Economic outlook for the FY 2026/27 and the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework(MTEF).
The Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha gave an overview of the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP-IV) focusing on the priority programmes along targeted value chains.
PS Makokha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive and evidence-based planning that aligns well with the proposed budget.
The successful launch sets a clear foundation for the Budget hearings scheduled for the remaining two days.
Present during the launch were; Public Investment and Asset Management Principal Secretary, Cyrell Odede, the Parliamentary Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson, Hon.Samuel Atandi Onunga, various PSs from other State Departments, Members of Parliament and Development Partners among other Senior Officials.
