The State Department For Economic Planning Strategic Meeting
The Economic Planning and its Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) Top Strategic Management meeting was convened today, Tuesday, 3rd February, 2026 in Nairobi. Senior leadership met to review progress, align priorities, discuss strategic issues and chart a way forward.
As the 34th President of the United States of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower said “Plans are nothing; planning is everything.”
The strategic meeting builds on the outcome of the previous sitting, which addressed priorities such as finalizing the Economic Planning Policy and Bill, the End-Term Review of the Vision 2030 and the Mid-Term Review of the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV).
While addressing the high-level meeting, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha underscored the need for stronger collaboration, coordination and synergy between the State Department and its SAGAs to enhance effectiveness and maximise impact.
The PS emphasized that this partnership will fundamentally transform the Department, enabling it to effectively steer the Country’s long-term development agenda.
He also outlined several pivotal initiatives slated for 2026. These include; the Mandatory Economic Planning Clearance Framework, revamping of e-NIMES/CIMES Monitoring and Evaluation systems and specialized training for County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs).
While concluding, Dr. Makokha called for collective responsibility to transform both the State Department and the nation. He challenged everyone to move beyond mere compliance and embrace a proactive mindset.
