Tree Planting in Vihiga County

The State Department for Economic Planning (SDEP) has been conducting tree planting exercises in various Counties since 2018 to comply with the presidential directive on Tree Planting. So far, SDEP has planted a total of 144,131 tree seedlings in three Counties, (Makueni, Narok, Kajiado) within a span of four years.

This was said in a statement read on behalf of the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Economic Planning James Muhati in Vihiga County on 21/12/2022 during the national tree planting drive in Kibiri Forest, Vihiga County. The Statement was delivered by the Director of Administration, Joel Makori who led the teams and the residents in this exercise of planting trees.

A total of 8,400 Seedlings were planted in Kibiri Forest in an area of 8.4 Hectares. The government has planned to achieve planting of 15B trees in a span of ten years to improve on the forest cover in the Country.

Also in attendance was the Vihiga County Commissioner, Susan Waweru, and other senior officials from the National and County governments.
