Visit by state department for irrigation team

The Economic Planning Principal Secretary, James Muhati met a team from the State Department for Irrigation on Monday 15th January, 2024 led by their Principal Secretary, Ephantus Kimotho.

 

The meeting that took place at Treasury Building was also attended by officers from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) led by the Director General Dr. Macdonald Obudho.

 

The meeting was held to deliberate on how KNBS can assist and support the State Department for Irrigation in carrying out Surveys on Irrigation projects spread across the Country.

 

The State Department for Irrigation PS Emphantus Kimotho  commended the State Department for Economic Planning for the work they undertake saying that Planning is very critical when it comes to resource mobilization. He reiterated that the State Department for Irrigation saw it wise to partner with the State Department for Economic Planning in evaluating and getting credible statistics on the ongoing over 150 projects, and 100 more projects being initiated to run until the year 2030.

 

PS Kimotho reiterated that the collaboration with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics on data collection and analysis on Irrigation projects will continue to unravel through data the reasons why some projects perform dismally despite a significant amount of money being injected in, even by banks and no improvements being realized while others thrive with little resources.

 

The Economic Planning PS James Muhati concluded the meeting by directing that the Two State Departments should meet and come up with a Team whose terms of reference is to draw a detailed proposal for a long term engagement on evaluating the Irrigation Projects.

 

Also in attendance were the Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu and his counterpart from State Department for Irrigation among other Senior Officers.
